Crispina is a Latin name meaning 'curly haired'. This whimsical ornamental African hair comb (also known as Afro comb) is made from upcycled cow bone and originates from the Toposa tribe of South Sudan. Discs of black vinyl heishi are strung along the length of the necklace. They imitate coconut shell disc beads, but are less fragile, and are separated by translucent gold color seed beads. They are interspersed at intervals with vintage brass drop accents and two flat shield-shaped beads from the Ivory Coast, which serve as symbols of power, wealth and status in. society.
Protective packaging and a beautiful handmade banana leaf jewelry box lined with Maasai shuka and Kenya kanga fabric is included, as well as a personally signed card by Shikha with the story behind this piece.
The components are personally sourced by Shikha during her travels around the world and this statement necklace is assembled in her studio.
