Moroccan Tie-Dye Pillow

The German Ambassador to Morocco collected gorgeous old Moroccan textiles in the hope of leaving them for a museum, or at least keeping some of the handspun beauty in the country rather than the auction houses of Europe.  He showed me his collection once when I was exhibiting my own work in Marrakech, and was most excited about new discoveries of very old tie-dye pieces - mere fragments - that revealed a tradition in Morocco previously unknown.

Like this. As soon as the old beauties were made known, artisans began to replicate them.  Here is one of those early samples, looking very much like the antiques in the Ambassador's collection.  He would be pleased. A big pillow.  A big presence.

Deep maroon with tangerine circles.  Cotton backing in tangerine.
